Into the world
for all aspects of life

Two remarkable workpieces embarked on their journey on February 22nd, 2021: Two plates, cast from 280 tonnes of liquid iron in the Siempelkamp Giesserei, are on their way to the customer to be installed in one of the largest plastic injection molding machines available on the world market. A good occasion to take a closer look at the versatile and partly indispensable applications of these machines.

Unique casting expertise
for plastic products in all dimensions

The impressive plates, with a gross weight of around 130 tonnes each, were loaded onto an inland vessel in the port of Krefeld and from there set off on their journey to their destination – becoming part of a highly complex plastic injection molding machine. Such highly complex machines are used to produce state-of-the-art components for the aerospace industry or for electric vehicles, which are gaining importance increasingly. But also quite common objects that have become indispensable parts of our everyday life, are produced on such modern plastic injection molding machines – e.g. toothbrushes, displays, housings for flat screen TVs or vehicle interior trim. The machines, also known as horizontal presses, in which plastic granulate is heated and injected into a suitable mold, form the required component via two mold halves and with an enormous press force of up to 8,800 tonnes. This enormous force transmission is actually only possible with the help of these Siempelkamp casting plates.

“We are proud to actively shape the future in this way with our expertise and know-how“

Dirk Howe, Managing Director of Siempelkamp Giesserei

Basis for innovation
Driven by responsibility for nature and future generations

“When small children play with Lego bricks or a patient's life is saved with an injection, we are the ones who supply the necessary hardware for this. When we fill a bucket with water or put on our running shoes for exercise: there is always a piece of Siempelkamp Giesserei in the most diverse products of everyday life. These examples show how naturally we use things made of plastic in the most diverse everyday situations today.” Plastic injection molding machines are thus indispensable in many industries and help innovation drivers such as the automotive industry or manufacturers of consumer electronics in particular to produce their high-tech products. Whether with machines for the trendsetters of electromobility or for the big players of the German automotive industry: everywhere Siempelkamp castings are present for the production of these products which are so important for our economy. “Our daily motivation is: Vorsprung durch Guss - Casting is our Passion,” says Dr. Georg Geier, second Managing Director of Siempelkamp Giesserei.

In addition to the responsibility for technically sophisticated innovations, Siempelkamp Giesserei also fulfills the great social task of preserving the environment and protecting future generations. This includes the pursuit of increasingly lighter and more complex plastic components as well as the use of recycling materials. "We support the well-known machine manufacturers in developing smarter injection molding production solutions, even for really demanding material combinations. Every gram of weight saved means less energy consumption and thus protects the environment," explains Dirk Howe.

Almost every car of the future also contains the experience of the Siempelkamp Giesserei – and the next further development in the sector of plastic injection molding machines, in which the Krefeld-based company is naturally involved, is not far away!
